Congratulations to Kristian Olsen Frandsen, who receives this year’s Tormek Scholarship Award with his table “FiKa”- a piece that combines traditional and contemporary craft techniques. During the last two years, Kristian has studied at Capellagården’s School of craft and design at Öland (Sweden) and he now looks forward to new challenges in his promising career.
A whole lot of flying shavings from this workshop! Join us as we visit Carl Malmsten Furniture Studies in Stockholm together with Nick Agar, Tormek friend and professional woodturner from Devon, UK.
We did a lot of sharpening – the films will be available shortly on the Sharpening woodturning tools page – but first, here are some highlights from the woodturning workshop for students and staff where Nick shared tips on technique and positions. Thank you to all who participated, it was really inspiring to meet you all!

The new Square Edge Jig SE-77 is a further development of the SE-76 jig. The new design has two special screws that allow a fine adjustment to get a perfect 90° corner or set the jig for a slightly convex shape.
We are now introducing the SVD-186, a further development of the popular gouge jig SVD-185. The most significant change from a user perspective is the easy and precise click setting and the improved locking disc, which greatly ease the setting. The new version also handles wider tools.
This year, we are happy to congratulate Anton Brunberg who is the Tormek Scholar for 2015. As always, the applicants’ work was to a very high standard, but we all fell for Anton’s elegant and playful desk “City Safari”.

Tormek T-4 is an enhancement of the T-3 model, taking the precision and stability to a completely new level. Vital functions like the motor and the main shaft are mounted in the zinc cast top, which includes the integrated sleeves for the Universal Support.
So it’s done! Amongst the many qualified applications, it was Johan Arvidsson from Gothenburg who took home the Tormek Scholarship Award for 2014. He impressed the panel of judges with his cabinet “Sixty Degrees” consisting of over 1200 different pieces.
