Planer Blade Sharpening / sharping 2 Planer blades
« on: May 22, 2021, 09:22:38 pm »
HI, Sharping a set of 2 planer blades, I first start with the stone in coarse condition for fast removal and then as everybody I will make my stone in fine state for the final stage.
Now my question is, if I do both blades first with the coarse and then I will change to fine and do both blades, avoiding I have to change the condition of the stone 4 times.
Will I have any issues if I do this please or I should finish all the process on one blade and then do the same with the other? Thank you

Scissors Sharpening / First Scissors to try sharpening.
« on: June 28, 2019, 07:11:51 pm »
Hi, I need some help and advice on these scissors.
After I impressed my wife with a couple of kitchen knives I have sharpened ( doing some training, not so happy with the final result, but she liked them ) I was asked if I could sharpen her scissors.
So, to justify my investment in the Tormek, I said, no problem.
Now, before I commit suicide I wish to have some hints, advice how I should tackle this, especially  after I noticed that these scissors  seems to have 2 bevels; ( see photo ) they can be separated if needed.
Can I do them freehand or shall I buy the SVX-150 Scissors jig.
Thanks
Alf.

Knife Sharpening / small kitchen knife
« on: June 26, 2019, 11:45:07 am »
Trying  to sharpen a small kitchen knife, ( for training purpose ) overall lenght 180mm, blade is 85mm by 15mm, it keeps kicking back, with a jig and even free hand, angle was 15 deg.Blade marked stainless steel !!
The jig is home made, made on Jan model. knife was clamped on the handle like the SVM-00.
What is the indication of such a behavior, I am sure I am doing something wrong, or lack of experience?
Thanks
Alf.

Hand Tool Woodworking / My first test with a chisel
« on: June 13, 2019, 06:29:02 pm »
Hi, this morning I tried  to sharpen my first chisel as a test to get some training.
I noticed that during my sharpening the bevel was having a round pattern, which got bigger as I kept sharpening. I had the impresion the the sharpening pattern should be even all over the bevel.
Now, am I doing something wrong, should I do any setting to the jig, or this normal? The chisel was 90 deg withe jig, that I checked.
Another question that might be relevant to this, should the tormek be 100% horizontal, because mine the level buble is touching the right line of the center indicater.( from Left to Right )
I hope that the photo is good enough to show what I am trying to say.
Thank you
Alf.

Knife Sharpening / Bowie Knife
« on: June 13, 2019, 12:30:09 pm »
Hi, I have jus received my T8 and I wish to sharpen my long aquired Bowie Knife, some 50 years ago.
Now, what would be the right bevel, and when one say for an example 40 deg what are we refering to since the knife has to 2
bevels on each side of the blade. ( chisels have one ) I am not so versed in this terminology, sorry to say.
From the photo, maybe one can see the the bevel is so small that I could hadly measure it, so any help is much appreciated.
Thanks
Alf

General Tormek Questions / Tormek T4
« on: May 27, 2019, 08:18:06 am »
Hi,
Thank you for adding me to this forum.
I am considering buying the Tormek T4, because the T8 is a bit expensive for me, considering I am just doing some woodworking for a hobby.
Having said that, on the other side, I do not wish that after some time using the T4,  I will regrade that I didn’t bought the latest model, T8, considering that the T4 is a more older model, probably soon the be replaced.
There are some issues that I wish to get advice upon please:
Is the size of the grinding wheel (200 x40mm) a drawback compared with the T8 250x 50mm
Also the dealer, from whom I am thinking of buying, has this (part of ) description
SG 200 Super-Grind-Stone 200 x 40 mm
Genuine leather honing wheel 145 x 26 mm
Motor 230 V, 120 W (input)
Duty max. 30 min(hour)
Running speed 120 rpm (idling)
Now, can anybody explain the underline sentence what does it means. My impressions is that the T4 can’t be used more than 30 min constantly, so if this is what I think it is, then the motor is not so heavy-duty, as much as I wish it to be.
I also made some searching for an alternative model, just to compare  and I found the RECORD POWER WG250 wet grinding machine for €299, with 5 years guarantee close to the T8 in specs, 250x50mm wheel, and with variable speed/stepless speed, but not refined as the T8, IMO.
Before I decide I wish that I get some good advice from those who have experience in this machines.
Thank You for your help.
Alf.
