General Tormek Questions / Belt grinder for use with Tormek
« on: August 06, 2018, 07:09:23 am »
Tormek is good sharpener but as you know it can't do everything. So I'm looking for good belt grinder for use with Tormek.

Can I ask for recommendation?

I'll use it to blade thinning, re-grinding, removing bolster, convex edge sharpening, flatting edge, repairing broken tip.

Thank you.

Knife Sharpening / Aluminum bushing for 5/8" arbor
« on: July 17, 2018, 05:26:21 am »
I chose Wootz's solution for concave edge sharpening and I bought this wheel.

But it has 5/8" arbor, while shaft of T-8 is 12mm. According to Wootz, the aluminum bushing solves this problem.(outer diameter  5/8", inner diameter 12mm, length 42mm)

But I can't find a company to manufacture it. ---> They can only make up to 38mm.

Is there a company in the US that makes the bushing I want?(6061 aluminum)

Knife Sharpening / Difficulty of milling the knife jig
« on: July 09, 2018, 05:44:47 am »
For a thick knife sharpening, I thought I had to mill the jig like Wootz did. But all of the machinists said, "For this work, I have to make a another jig that holds your jig, which is expensive."

I suggested them to fix it with vise, but they said it would not be enough.

Is there another good way to fix the SVM-45 to a milling machine?

General Tormek Questions / After truing the SJ stone
« on: May 04, 2018, 02:28:57 pm »
After truing the SJ stone, some holes are created on the surface. I didn't solve this problem even though doing it very slowly and the depth was as thin as possible. I did it very slowly and set the truing depth as shallow as possible to solve this problem, but it was not effective.

Knife Sharpening / Idea for thick knives
« on: April 22, 2018, 05:46:37 am »
I hope Tormek improve their SVM-45 so that we can clamp thick knives.

This image is my idea.(The shims must be included in the components of the Jig)

Like wootz's solution, it's okay to widen only static clamp.

Knife Sharpening / Interference by Tanto knife
« on: April 21, 2018, 04:42:01 am »
I tried to sharpen Strider tanto knife but due to interference with the Universal Support, I couldn't.

I reproduce the situation using another knife.

First, knife's butt interfered with Universal Support.

Second, the protruding part of the knife jig interfered with the Universal Support.

Is there a solution for this problem?

General Tormek Questions / Axe for Hardwood
« on: April 13, 2018, 03:50:31 am »
I believe 25 degrees included is the best angle for axe.

But Gransfors Bruks said it is too low for hardwood.

How do you think about it?

Knife Sharpening / Why is the knife jig arched?
« on: April 10, 2018, 04:35:26 am »
The jaws of the jig are not flat but arched. What are the benefits of this?

In other words, what will happen if I make it flat?

Hello, everyone.

Knife Sharpening / How can we jig this short & curved blade?
« on: February 23, 2018, 03:02:30 am »
This is CRKT Squid that has a short & curved blade.

As a result of sharpening with the SVM-45, the angle of the tip increased significantly.

Is there a way to solve this?
