thank you for adding these manuals to your sharpeninghandbook! Drilling holes with manpower and not with electricity makes me smile!

Just put a 50 mm long tube in place of the grindstone to avoid slipping of the axle.

Knife Sharpening / Re: A Faster, More Repeatable Way to Set Up USB Height?
« on: December 31, 2020, 03:11:09 pm »
Well, I also have a simple way to get the software readout values for the USB height to the Tormek. As an “anchor” for my depth caliper I use a small Neodym magnet cube with 5,0 mm edge length. On the housing of my T7 it sits firmly as the housing is made of steel (Magnetic_cube_1). On the FVB I had to fix it by a glue as the parts used there are non-magnetic (Magnetic_cube_2).

After setting the desired height on the caliper, which is the software readout minus 5,0 mm edge length of the magnet, I hold the end of the caliper near to the magnet cube and immediately the magnet grabs the end of the caliper. Now I can focus on adjusting the right USB height. Very simple, fast and no need to control marks and parallel lining.

Happy New Year, stay healthy!

Knife Sharpening / Re: laser protractor

I started using laser goniometer with the DIY version DILAGON 2.0 described by Cyrano in http://bessex.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=338&page=2. Very easy to build as you don't need a curved screen. The angle scale is calculated for a flat area. To hold the small laser I used a pipe clamp.

A year ago I purchased the Vetako Goniometer Pro+, a very nice instrument. My only criticism is the missing manual, but the basic operation is self explaining.

Paul,

using heavily boiled water (of course cooled down) may avoid the muddy water for a longer period of time.

Unfortunately it's for very small knives only: 70 x 50 mm - maximum size !!!

I also received the Vetako a few days ago. Works fine, very clear readout.

Hello Josu, a very clear and useful description of working with three leather wheels as suggested by our genius wootz.

Just to avoid a confusion: In the list of the three compound used you correctly list diamond compound 1 micron. Later in the text you write 0.1 micron for the compound for the second leather wheel.

I also like this sharpening method with the three leather wheels!
