The Tormek Scholarship Award for 2018 in Sweden is awarded to Peter Pålsson and his detailed writing case made from oak, juniper wood and pearwood. This product is extremely flexible and can also be broken down into individual elements, providing the owner with a number of drawers of various sizes. The judges were impressed by Peter's playfulness and are pleased to present Peter with a complete Tormek system that we hope will help him with his creative work in future.
We are proud to introduce Kerryn Carter as our new Tormek Friend! Kerryn started her professional career as an accountant and lawyer, but never let go of her dream of becoming a woodworker. In 2012, she got the chance to take a class led by woodworker Stuart Faulkner and since then, Kerryn has continued to develop her interest in woodwork, which has now become part of her professional life. Today, Kerryn is recognised as a woodworker, writer and educator. She runs “Tool School”, a woodwork school which primarily focuses on giving children and women the opportunity to work with tools and wood.
Meet our new Tormek Friend! Since winning the prestigious competitions Chef of the Year 2016 and the Nordic Culinary Mastership 2017, Jimmi is a familiar face for many Swedes. Being a passionate gastronome, he is dedicated to discovering new flavour combinations and creative presentations, with great respect for the raw material. He is also one of the stars in the Swedish Culinary Team who is setting the agenda for modern Swedish cuisine. The team is currently practising for the Culinary World Cup in November and the Culinary Olympics 2020 with the theme "Curious by nature". Tormek is proud to be a selected partner.
Tormek receives award as this year’s leading export company in Örebro County, at the Örebro-gala* on March 1st. The jury's statement reads: "This year's leading export company has satisfied customers in more than 30 countries and sales have increased by over 70 percent in the last 5 years. They have become a world player to count on when “sharp” results are a must. With customers like the Swedish Culinary Team and a new sharpening studio in Lindesberg, the success is set to continue for Tormek".
We are now launching three new diamond wheels and a Multi Base for edge tool sharpening. Both the Multi Base and Diamond Wheels are designed for use with the Tormek Water Cooled Sharpening System and will give woodworkers the perfect conditions for always having sharp tools in their work.
Professional woodturner Glenn Lucas, famous for his bowls turned from native Irish wood, visited Tormek’s Sharpening Studio for a day of inspiration. Glenn demonstrated how he turns his classics bowls to an enthusiastic audience; the bowls which have become his trade mark around quality galleries and exhibitions worldwide. During the day, he also shared his most valuable tips in woodturning and the sharpening of different tools.
Tormek was awarded Great New Idea 2017 for their Tormek T-2 Pro Kitchen Knife Sharpener at The Restaurant Show in London. The Restaurant Show is the UK’s leading event in the hospitality industry and is annually hosting the Great New Idea Competition, recognising the most innovative and ingenious inventions in two different classes; food and non-food. Tormek T-2 won the award in the non-food class.
The UK winner of the 2017 Tormek Scholarship Award is Olly Christian from Bristol. Olly is a fully qualified nurse and has many years experience working in the NHS, however he decided to change his career to suit his creative talent and home life. He has recently finished a 2-year course studying Furniture Making at the City of Bristol College; with his second-year project he won the Somerset Guild of Craftsman 2017 furniture prize and is now also awarded with a new Tormek Sharpening System.

We are delighted to congratulate Alexandra Michelsen who is this year’s recipient of the Tormek Scholarship Award in Sweden. She impressed the jury with her wall cabinet "Skilla", a modern piece of furniture with a retro design. The prize, a complete Tormek system including machine and accessories, is going to be very useful since Alexandra will be part of a start-up workshop this Autumn.
